    19/04/2008 : Close encounter

Soon after the under 16’s took to the ice, facing a team that they beat 11-0 in the opening fixture of the season. This was a much tighter affair as Elgin were far better organised and difficult to break down. The opening few minutes, however, was all Solway. Michael Corbett, Dean Handley and Ross Murray all came close to opening the scoring. After the opening minute’s skirmishes, the game settled into a fairly open match as both teams strived to beat the deadlock. The fans had to wait until the 15th minute, when Kieran Kirkpatrick’s smart pass released Handley who calmly found the net for a fine opener. As Elgin pressed forward, the defence held firm, with Ben Fraser, Bradley Rae, Mark Duffy, Kieran Kirkpatrick and Lewis Henderson all resolute and determined. 05/04/2008 : 12’s Coast home

On Saturday a snow smattered Inverness welcomed the under 12’s and 14’s, in the nothernmost, narrowest and coldest of rinks. First up were the under 12’s. It was a short bench of only nine players who made the long trip to the Highlands, so many of the youngsters would have to double shift their way through this match. In the first period it was a keenly fought contest, with both teams skating well, but the Dumfries unit, having to adopt a passing game , due to the lack of players, soon found a rhythm that the home team could not match. So it was no surprise when Solway took the lead on 7.48 on a powerplay, Josh Grieveson releasing Connor Henderson, who dispatched the puck with composure, to open the scoring. Less than a minute later, Inverness, on one of their few attacks, equalised through a long-range effort from Jack. This did not disrupt a fluent Sharks, as soon after, they took the lead again when Connor Caven scored  as he broke away, leaving the Inverness defence in his wake. Before half time, Solway scored a third with the best move of the match as Henderson cut inside, passing to Josh Grieveson, who passed it on for Ruth McCutcheon to push it home , unopposed, from three yards. ...full story »

    05/04/2008 : 14’s Hold On

Straight after, the under 14’s teams took to the ice and this was a closer, more tense affair. There was not much to separate the two sides and the result was in doubt, almost to the end. The long journey, and large number of players in the squad, seemed to rattle the Sharks, who took a whole period to adjust to this slim rink. At half time the scores stood at 1-1, Calum Henderson scored a fine opener on 5.56 when he was set up by Connor Henderson, only for Cuthbertson to equalise for Inverness a few minutes after as he skated in and slotted the puck high past Shane Robson. ...full story »
