About the Junior Solway Sharks
The Junior Solway Sharks are a group of very committed and enthusiastic Players, Coaches, Team Leaders, Parents and Spectators.
Player ages range from 6 to 20, and play in 5 different age groups:
Under 10's, 12's, 14's, 16's and 20's.
Team Leaders tend to be parents who have caught the 'hockey bug'. Three Team Leaders look after the needs of each age group during training and games sessions, ensuring player safety, behaviour and good conduct.
The role Parents and spectators play within the Junior Sharks cannot be under estimated; supporting and cheering on the teams, ensuring players get to the rink at the right times, and generally being there to support and help out.

Player Pathways
Foundation - Participants are introduced to the most basic of ice hockey skills; skating. Through the National Awards Scheme - Skate UK, each individual will be given the opportunity to learn to effectively skate forwards, backwards, start and stop. An aim of the Skate UK Scheme, levels 1 - 4, is also to build confidence within each individual, both on and off the ice.
Participants can progress through levels 1 - 4 either by joining the Learn to Play sessions or through the Ice Bowl's dedicated Skate UK classes.
Participation - Once the basics of skating have been mastered, each participant can now move onto the Learn to Play Scheme. This scheme has as its aims; Progression, Development and Excellence.
Progression - Each Learn to Play session has been designed to give participants the skills and abilities to move naturally to the next level; ultimately becoming a member of the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club.
Development - Each participant will have the opportunity to learn and develop at their own pace, under the guidance of fully qualified coaches.
Excellence - The overall aim of the Learn to Play Scheme is to provide players with the skills, knowledge and ability to participate in competitive ice hockey, progress through the Junior Sharks ranks to the Senior Sharks Teams.
Performance - After learning the basics, players will be able to join the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club and play competitive ice hockey against other teams throughout Scotland.
Playing at 5 different age groups, players will develop and grow as both players and people. Guided by enthusiastic and qualified coaches, each player will be guided and pushed to achieve their best.
Excellence - The Solway Sharks Senior Team
Team Leaders
Team Leaders will play a vital and pivotal role in the success of the Junior Sharks Programme / Family. Through your own personal knowledge, expertise commitment and professionalism both training sessions and game days will run as smoothly as possible. Teamwork will also be vital to ensure that all players, Sharks and visitors receive the safest and highest quality opportunities possible.
The roles and requirements of a Team Leader will be a mix of coordination and practical tasks. It is important to remember that although the Team Leader and position is pivotal and important, having fun makes things appear easier.
The Junior Sharks will, ideally, recruit three Leaders per age group, if you are interested in becoming part of this team please contact Kevin 'Doc' Doherty.
Are you ready to meet the challenge and become a part of your Team, the home team, the Solway Sharks!
