Under 12s Take on Tornadoes

Sunday the 9th of January saw the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Clubs under 12s team travel to Kilmarnock for a league encounter with Kilmarnock’s under 12s team the Tornadoes.

Solway took the upper hand from the face off and four minutes into the game they put there first mark on the score sheet with Luke Houston and Connor Clark combining to set up Scott Henderson, however only a minute later the home team put away the equaliser into the Solway net, then another two shots were fired past Sharks net minder Lewis Dolan.  The young Solway team then began to fight back as team captain Stuart Kerr made a breakaway down the left hand side of the rink and his solo effort paid off as he slotted in goal number two.  Despite Solway’s best efforts and several shots on goal they could not capitalise and as the puck broke loose Kilmarnock took advantage and fired in their fourth goal ending the first period scoring at Kilmarnock - 4 Solway - 2.

The second period got underway with Kilmarnock extending their two goal lead to three within the opening minutes, this trend continued with another three shots being sent past net minder Kyle Johnston who was now taking his turn in the Solway goal.  The Solway team continued to give their best to the game and with three minutes left in the game Struan Duff gave a strong pass to Scott Henderson who rocketed in goal number three for the Sharks.  Just as it looked as if this would be how the scores would end Arran Shankland hammered a shot into the back of the Killi net right on the buzzer ending the scores at Kilmarnock - 8 Solway - 4.  Man of the match for Solway was Stuart Kerr and Andrew Barr for Kilmarnock
