Under 10s At Top Of Their Game In Ayr

Saturday 16th January saw Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club’s under 10s team travel to Ayrshire to take on the North Ayr Sabres at the Magnum Centre.

Both teams began the first period looking very strong and with just over a minute gone the Sabres put their first mark on the score sheet, however within seconds this was followed by Solway’s Lewis Chalmers sending the puck to team mate Aidan Nicol who went on to fire in the equaliser.  The young Sharks continued to work hard and seven minutes into the period their impressive teamwork paid off as Kieran Hair crossed the puck on to the stick of Lewis Chalmers who then went on to secure goal number two.  Solway’s third goal came courtesy of a solo effort from Scott McCutcheon.  Sabres then launched an attack on the Solway nets and despite the gallant efforts of net minder Rebekah Scott they managed to sneak in a second goal ending first period scoring at Solway - 3 Sabres - 2.

The second period got underway with Solway making and early extension to their lead as Kier Anderson battled through the Ayr defence to rocket home goal number four.  Sabres fought back from the centre face off and capitalised with their third of the game, however from this moment on it was to be Solway’s game as Conor Caven tipped the puck into the back of the net to put mark number five on the score sheet.  The home team tried hard to break through the solid Solway defence, but every time they did so they were met by net minder Rebekah Scott who was making her debut between the pipes for Sharks.  Goal number six came as Aidan Nicol gave Lewis Chalmers the pass which enabled him to send the puck sailing into the bottom left corner of the Sabres net.  Aidan Nicol was the provider of number seven for Solway and Lewis Houston steered the puck in the right direction for goal number eight.  Finally with minutes left in the game Kier Anderson received a smooth pass from Lewis Houston and raced up the ice for goal nine for Sharks ending scoring at Solway - 9 Sabres - 3.  Man (or lady) of the match went to net minder Rebekah Scott.
