Sharks Clash With Penguins at Ayr

Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club’s under 12s team travelled to Ayrshire on Saturday the 16th January to take on the North Ayr Penguins in a league clash.

The first period saw both teams making various advances towards their opposite goal in a bid to score but it was not to be for either team as neither net minder would budge and Solway’s Kyle Johnston stepped up to the mark in style every time a shot came his way this resulted in first period scoring ending at Solway - 0 Penguins - 0.

Penguins took the upper hand from the face off in the second period putting two goals past Sharks Net minder Kyle Johnston within moments, then the puck reached Solway’s Scott Henderson who was perfectly positioned for goal number one for Sharks.  With the scoring as tight as it was this forced both teams to move their efforts up a level and it was Ayr who shot away another two goals at their home rink.  Despite the goal difference the young Solway team soldiered on and this time it was again a superb effort from Scott Henderson which secured goal number two for Sharks.  Penguins again attacked the Solway nets not once but twice dramatically extending their lead.  With only seconds on the clock Solway was still giving everything they had to the game and their efforts paid off as Kier Anderson stormed through the defence to put a third mark on the Solway score sheet, this ended scoring at Penguins - 6 Solway - 3.  Man of the match went to Solway’s net minder Kyle Johnston.
