Dumfries Ice Bowl, King Street, Dumfries, DG2 9AN
Sunday the 24th January saw the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club’s under 10s team travel to the Dundee Ice Arena to take on the Dundee Stars under 10s.
The young Solway team got off to a great start as they worked hard to keep the puck in their scoring zone. The Stars net minder did well to save a direct hit by Sharks’ Conor Caven however he did not bargain on Aidan Nicol’s rebound shot being hammered into the back of his net putting Solway 1-0 up. Despite the solid defensive efforts from Corey Cooper and Liam Stenton Stars then managed to break away and the result was the equaliser ending the first period scoring at one a piece.
The second period again saw the young Sharks giving the Stars net minder plenty to do as Ruaridh Lockerbie and Lewis Houston put the pressure on with shots towards the net. As the puck broke loose Stars again broke away towards the Solway nets and net minder Rebekah Scott was called upon to make some difficult saves, however a soaring shot made its way through to put Stars 2-1 up on the visiting Solway team. Solway took the puck from the centre face off straight up to their scoring end and again fought hard to make sure that’s where it would stay and with only a few minutes remaining in the game a pass from Kieran Hair met the stick of Lewis Chalmers who took off towards the net and provided the equaliser for Sharks this ended the scores at Solway - 2 Stars - 2. Man of the Match went to Solway’s Corey Cooper
