Hockey School 2009
Over the last 18 months the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club has worked closely with Dumfries & Galloway Council to ensure that the sport we all love continues to grow and prosper in Dumfries. This partnership approach has led the Dumfries Ice Bowl to secure Centre of Excellence status by the SIHL, something we are all rightly proud of.
The partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council has allowed us the opportunity to focus joint resources on the development of the sport and the supporting structures which are vital in making it work and continue to grow. An example of this growth will be this years’ annual SSJIHC Hockey School. Historically hockey schools only provide around 30hours of ice time over 5 days, however this year we have managed to secure almost 50 hours over 6 days. Monday to Friday and will be packed with intensive on-ice sessions, which will be complimented by off-ice and classroom work. Off-ice work will include:
- Strength work
- Speed work
- General fitness
- Flexibility
- Nutrition
- Mental preparation
The focus of all hockey schools is getting the players on the ice as much as possible, but also to be under the watchful eye of the best possible coaches. Participants in this years’ school will be coached by some of the best in Scotland:
- Martin Grubb – D&G’s Ice Hockey Development Officer / National Head Coach and Solway Sharks Snr Head Coach
- Jamie Thomson – Assistant National Coach & Team Manager / Solway Sharks Head of Junior Development
- Gary Russell – Solway Sharks starting netminder & former Elite League netminder
- Guest Elite League / Great Britain players
I appreciate that financially things may be a little tight this year, but again our partnership with D&G Council allows us to make this opportunity available to you for only £60 for the whole week. What will your £60 get you?
- Loads of ice time
- Enjoyable and challenging off-ice activities
- 1 meal per day
- Hockey School top
- Free of charge tournament and skills tests (Sharks versus the best of the rest)
Along with being under the watchful eye of some of the best coaches in the business, you will also be able to test your skills and abilities against our own up and coming SSJIHC talent. As you can imagine interest and demand for places will be high (especially at this price), so book early, pay early and guarantee your place.
If you’re interested in taking part this year, the school runs from Monday 3rd to Saturday 8th August. All you have to do to secure your place is send your details To Jamie Thomson c/o Dumfries Ice Bowl King Street Dumfries DG2 9AN along with a £30 non-refundable deposit and pay the balance on the day.
